Benefits Of Playing With Your Cat

November 1, 2022
Kitties are nothing if not cute. Of course, while Fluffy is always adorable, she’s at her most charming when she’s hard at play. It’s almost impossible not to chuckle at our feline pals’ silly antics! Actually, playing with your cat is one of the best things you can do for her. A Wheat Ridge, CO vet lists some reasons to go grab that laser toy in this article.

Exercise

When Fluffy is a kitten, she’ll basically be a tiny, furry bundle of zoom. However, as she ages, she will slow down … way down. In fact, your drowsy pet will spend the majority of her life sleeping, and another pretty big chunk just lounging around between naps. This is cute, but it’s not great for your fuzzy buddy’s waistline. A fun session of Catch The Red Dot will get your lazy buddy up and moving.

Stimulation

Fluffy may spend a rather ridiculous amount of time sleeping, but she still does need some form of entertainment. Playing is a great way to keep your feline buddy amused! Plus, the mental stimulation play offers is great for your kitty’s mind. Cats have to focus to nail those tricky run/jump/pounce/meow combinations! That concentration becomes especially important as they age, as it can help ward off cognitive decay.

Bonding

Our furry friends are very emotional, and they get quite attached to their humans. Playing can be wonderful for bonding! When you hold that feather toy or laser pointer for your kitty, she’ll know that you’re doing something for her benefit. That can go a long way towards making her feel safe and loved. Playing can also help cats bond with each other. If Fluffy and Mittens realize that fun things happen when they’re together, they may warm up to one another more quickly.

Zoomy Burn

Our feline overlords are quite frisky and active when they’re young. This is cute … until your feisty furball wakes you up in the middle of the night batting her favorite squeaky toy around or pouncing on your toes. A fun play session before bedtime will help little Fluffy burn off some of that zing. This will (hopefully) increase the chances of your tiny buddy sleeping through the night.
