Kitty Holiday Traditions

December 1, 2021

The holiday season is officially here! It’s great to get together with friends and family, and reconnect over our favorite seasonal dishes and events. As it turns out, some of our feline patients have a few traditions of their own. Here, a Wheat Ridge, CO vet lists some of the things Fluffy has on her agenda.

Kitty Supervision

Cats like to keep a very close eye on their humans. Fluffy will supervise you carefully as you go about cooking, cleaning, decorating, and wrapping gifts. Your furry assistant may also try to ‘help’ with a few things, like gift wrapping and packing.

Tree Mischief

You can’t really blame cats for getting a little excited at the sight of a decorated tree. Kitties often climb trees in the wild, for safety, shelter, and vantage points. To Fluffy, that pretty tree is basically a kitty jungle gym hung with shiny toys. Decorate the tree so that the only things within reach of Fluffy’s cute paws are a few unbreakable objects.

Box Explorations

Our feline pals certainly do love boxes. Fluffy may not be able to resist exploring any empty ones she notices. Give your furball a few of the boxes after everyone has finished opening their gifts.

Begging

Fido may have a reputation for being very good at cajoling us to fork over snacks and treats, but Fluffy can also be pretty ‘purrsistant’ with this. You can certainly give your kitty something extra special! Just take care to stick with safe foods, such as plain, boneless chicken or turkey.

Photo Session

We never get tired of seeing adorable seasonal pictures of our patients. Take a few minutes to snap some super cute photos of your feline buddy. (Tip: try downloading some pet camera apps for your phone.)

Playing With New Toys

Many kitties will find lots of fun new toys in their stockings. You can’t go wrong with classic options, like catnip mice. You can also try something newer, like a laser pointer or remote-controlled toy.

Naps

No matter what time of year it is, Fluffy will still diligently keep up with her napping routine. (Note: a new bed can make a great gift for kitties.) Enjoy some downtime over the holidays with your furry friend. Purring cats go wonderfully with holiday movies!
