Resolutions For Puppies

January 1, 2023

Happy New Year! Are you starting out 2023 with a puppy? If so, your little buddy has quite a bit to accomplish this year. Not only does little Fido have lots of growing to do, he also has important things to learn! A Wheat Ridge, CO vet lists some of the things on little Fido’s agenda in this article.

Grow

Little Fido is in for a pretty impressive growth spurt over the next few months. Good nutrition is especially important at this point in your canine pal’s life. That rapid growth really puts a lot of strain on dogs’ bodies. Any nutritional deficiencies or imbalances now could cause or contribute to issues down the road. Ask your vet for specific recommendations, including portion sizes and feeding schedules.

Get More Bacon

There’s nothing wrong with giving your furry pal treats. They’re great for both bonding and training, and just getting that tail going. However, too much bacon isn’t good for dogs. Opt for small snacks, and stick with safe options.

Investigate

Puppies are basically adorable, furry chewing machines. Make your home safe for little Fido by doing lots of petproofing. Ask your vet for advice.

Charm My Vet

We love meeting new patients, and helping them grow into happy, healthy adults. Your canine companion will need to come in a few times this year: exams, vaccinations, parasite control, microchipping, and spay/neuter surgery are all on the agenda. Get those appointments scheduled asap.

Make Lots Of Friends

This is definitely one goal you should help your canine friend reach. Socialization is crucial for puppies! Introducing little Fido to different people, and letting him explore new places, will help him become open and confident about new experiences.

Do Good In School

Teaching little Fido the do’s and don’ts of being a good boy is going to be very important this year. Start with the basics. Sit is usually the easiest for dogs to pick up, so it’s a good one to begin with. Other important commands include Stay, Lay Down, Come, Heel, Down, and Leave it or Drop it. Work on one at a time, reward your furry student with lots of treats and praise for doing well. Ask your vet for tips and tricks.
