Cute Ways Cats Show Affection

March 15, 2023

Does your feline buddy sometimes smack objects off your table or counters with her paw, and then give you a superior, haughty look? This cute but slightly bratty kitty quirk may actually be Fluffy’s way of trying to get your attention. Actually, cats have some pretty adorable ways of showing their love and/or getting us to pet and play with them. A local Wheat Ridge, CO vet lists a few of Fluffy’s more unusual signs of affection in this article.

Slow Blink

Did you know that blinking slowly is a sign of feline affection? Fluffy often does this when she is feeling comfortable and relaxed.

Stalking

Cats like to keep very close dibs on their human pals. Your furry little friend may follow you around the house as you go about your day. Fluffy has even been known to follow her humans into the bathroom, and often meows and cries if she gets shut out of the room they’re in.

Leg Rub

Fluffy may be small, but she’s pretty good at getting our attention when she needs to. Many kitties use this one when their humans are cooking!

Love Bites

Kitties take lion skills like pouncing, running, and jumping very seriously. Of course, Fluffy may occasionally try to practice on you. Tell her ‘No’ or ‘Be nice’ in a firm tone of voice, then ignore her for a while.

Conversation

Does Fluffy respond when you talk to her? While some cats are fairly quiet, others are little chatterboxes that will ramble on about, well, everything.

Fetch

Fetch is usually Fido’s game, but some furballs apparently missed that memo. Fluffy will sometimes bring a toy to her humans when she’s feeling playful. (Or, when she wants to strike fear into our hearts. You just never know with cats.)

Meow

While some of the ways kitties request attention are quite subtle, others are pretty straightforward. Fluffy may just tell you she wants to be petted. Or played with. Or picked up. Or put down.

Purrs

The purr is one of Fluffy’s most charming quirks. The fact that cats actually vibrate with happiness is super cute! When your furry friend snuggles up in your lap with her motor running, there’s no way to mistake that for anything other than kitty love.
