Purrfect Resolutions For People With Cats

January 1, 2022

Happy New Year! Are you making resolutions for 2022? Whether you have lofty goals for the year, or just want to focus on small changes, it’s always healthy to strive for growth and self-improvement. That applies to pet ownership as well! Why not include your feline friend in your resolutions? A Wheat Ridge, CO vet suggests a few resolutions for people with cats in this article.

Keep Up With Veterinary Care

Our feline pals tend to be fairly hardy, but they aren’t invincible. Fluffy needs proper veterinary care to thrive. Most cats should come in at least once every year, though you’ll want to ask your vet for specific recommendations.

Take Time To Play

Your adorable little ball of fur is actually a fierce predator at heart. Let Fluffy indulge her inner lion from time to time! Hold a laser pointer for her to chase, or dangle a feather toy above her. This will provide your kitty with both entertainment and exercise, and make her feel pampered.

Provide Little Comforts

Fluffy may spend most of her time lounging about, but she does need entertainment and stimulation in order to thrive. Offer her lots of toys to pounce on. She’ll also benefit from mental stimulation. This can be a window seat; background noise, such as a radio; or even kitty television shows. Comfy beds and scratching posts will also help keep that motor going.

Watch For Signs Of Stress/Illness

Cats can be quite mysterious, and they don’t always let on when something is bothering them. However, Fluffy’s behavior can be very telling. Watch for signs that something is amiss. Some of these include lack of appetite, poor grooming, hiding, vomiting, diarrhea, aggression, litterbox woes, grumpiness, and changes in behavior or vocalization. Call your vet immediately if you notice anything amiss.

Spend Quality Time

Our feline buddies are all very unique individuals, and some are just more affectionate than others. However, even cats that are on the aloof side often enjoy spending time with their humans. Pay attention to Fluffy this year! If your kitty is a cuddle bug, let her snooze on your lap. If not, get that motor going by offering her toys, treats, and catnip instead.
